About Us
Our story
Heritage & Provenance was founded with a simple idea. Meaningful objects deserve careful stewardship. We source authentic ancient and historical pieces and place them in the hands of thoughtful collectors, students of history, and curious first-time buyers always with clear provenance and respect for the cultures they represent.
What we do
- Curate, quality-led selections of ancient artefacts and antiquities.
- Share each item’s story period, culture, materials, and significance in plain language.
- Make collecting approachable with transparent pricing and responsive, human support.
How we source
Every piece is acquired from reputable dealers, private collections, and established auction houses, with documentation gathered wherever available (prior ownership history, published references, and past sale records). We never purchase items we believe to be illicitly obtained or lacking reasonable provenance. When applicable, we reference due-diligence checks and past listings to help you evaluate an item’s collecting history.
Authenticity & documentation
We stand behind what we sell. Items are described carefully and photographed clearly. Where available, we include supporting paperwork such as prior invoices, collection notes, or literature references. If you ever have a question about an item’s attribution or condition, we’ll walk you through it.
Guarantee
If an independent specialist reasonably challenges the authenticity of an item within a defined period after purchase, contact us and we’ll work with you on a resolution in line with our returns policy.
Do you use scientific testing?
For most entry-level objects, documented provenance and expert cataloguing provide reliable authentication. For higher-value or unusual pieces, we may arrange or recommend scientific testing such as thermoluminescence (TL) analysis for terracotta or faience. TL testing helps confirm that a ceramic was fired in antiquity rather than recently.
Can I request additional testing?
Yes. If you would like independent testing (e.g., TL or another laboratory method) for peace of mind, we can assist by:
- Recommending accredited laboratories.
- Supplying high-resolution photos and paperwork required by the lab
Ethical standards
Cultural heritage matters. We follow a simple rule. If we can’t explain where something came from in good faith, we don’t offer it. We do not handle items known to contravene source-country laws or international conventions. We encourage responsible collecting, careful documentation, and long-term preservation.
Shipping & care
- Worldwide shipping: Secure, discreet packaging with tracking.
- Handling: Fragile objects are packed with archival materials and double-boxed where needed.
- Customs: Buyers are responsible for local import rules and taxes; we’ll help with documentation.
- Care guidance: Each parcel includes handling tips so you can store and display your piece safely.
Who we serve
- Private serious collectors and new collectors
- Gift-givers seeking something truly one-of-a-kind
- Students, educators, and institutions needing well-documented teaching pieces
